Certificate Program Global Business Culture with Area Specialization

International Business Courses

The required international business courses allow students to gain knowledge in global management. Students can choose 2 courses from:

  • BADM 380 (International Business, prerequisite ECON 101)
  • BADM 381 (Multinational Management, prerequisite junior standing)
  • BADM 382 (International Marketing, prerequisite junior standing)
  • BADM 436 (International Business Immersion Program, IBIP)*

Students in the certificate program will get special permission from the BA department to enroll in these courses. Talk to Lynnea Johnson, Associate Director, Illinois CIBER, to obtain special permission lsjohnso@uiuc.edu 333 - 8335.

* Students must apply and be accepted to BADM 436 International Business Immersion Program

Business Foreign Language Courses

Students are required to study a foreign language beyond the required four semesters and concentrate on business foreign language classes that focus on business culture and vocabulary. Click here to see business foreign language courses

Area & Thematic Studies Center Courses

In order to gain a concentrated focus in a world area, students are required to take at least two of their area studies/foreign language courses in one world area. The certificates are offered in collaboration with the eight area and thematic studies centers on campus.

International Experience

The international experience requirement allows students to gain practical experience in international business. Students can fulfill the requirement by participating in a study abroad program or an international internship for at least six weeks. Students participating in the certificate program will be given priority for travel grants, overseas internships, and other international opportunities offered by the Illinois CIBER. Incentives for Students

The certificate will help students develop strong international business skills and make them more marketable to future employers. A formal certificate will provide students with an added credential they can present to company recruiters. There will be a formal graduation ceremony. Students in the certificate program will received priority for CIBER study abroad grants, overseas internship support, enrollment in IB courses.

How to Officially Register in Certificate Programs

Students who want to participate in the certificate program must meet with Lynnea Johnson for an advising appointment.
