Mission
From March 20-28, 2004, the Institute of Labor
and Industrial Relations (ILIR) and the Illinois Center for International
Business Education and Research (CIBER) organized and cosponsored a ten-day
educational trip to Germany and Austria.
The study tour, led
by Prof. John Lawler, professor at ILIR, was an optional part of a graduate
course in international human resource management (LIR 466) taught in
the spring semester 2004. The objective of the study trip was to learn
about human resource management practices in Germany and Austria through visits
at local companies, subsidiaries of American corporations, and lectures
by university professors.
During the lectures
and visits, participants had many professional opportunities to meet with
human resource managers and to experience German and Austrian business
and culture. Weekends and evenings were filled with discovering historic
sites, exploring the nightlife, and sampling regional food.
