Objective
Organized jointly by the area studies
centers, other international studies programs at the University
of Illinois, and the Illinois International High School initiative,
this five-day intensive institute will address the subject of world
economies, international trade and globalization. Topics to be covered
include:
- Globalization: What is it? Pros and Cons. Who benefits?
- US Multinationals: What are they? Where do they invest?
- Current controversies about the WTO
- World Economies: Africa, Latin America, EU, Russia, India
- Capitalism: Is it good for the poor?
- Interactive International Curricular Activities
Who should attend?
While all K-12 teachers are welcome,
the curriculum materials are geared mainly towards high school and
somewhat to middle school education. The Institute would be most
useful for teachers who teach courses on economics, political systems,
civics, AP Politics, world cultures and world history.
Credit
Participating teachers will receive:
30 CPDUs for IL teachers; 3.0 U of Illinois CEUs (30 contact hours)
for non-IL teachers.
